Summary: Yue Yun (1119-1142) was the son of Yue Fei (1103-1142), a famous general in the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1129) who devoted himself to the war against invasion from the State of Jin (1115-1234). At the end of the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), the State of Jin mounted a large-scale invasion from the north. Yue Fei led his military force named Yuejiajun to strike back and launched northern expeditions. Several years later, a large number of lost lands were recovered. Yue Yun was very diligent in study and keen on martial arts since his childhood. As time passed by, he became highly skilled at martial arts and could wield a pair of iron hammers weighing 40 kilos easily and powerfully. At the age of ten, Yue Yun won fame for leading his villagers to defeat Xueli Huabao, a marshal of the Jin army who came to raid Yue Fei's home village. Afterwards, Yue Yun started to follow his father on the battlefields where he was always at the forefront and displayed great valor. Having made so many brilliant achievements in the war, Yue Yun made the Jin army terror-stricken. There are many folk legends about the father and son. Their spirit of loyalty and patriotism have been praised by people from one generation to another.
