纽伯瑞大奖(The Newbery Medal for Best Children's Book)是由美国图书馆学会(American Library Association - ALA)的分支机构—— 美国图书馆儿童服务学会(Association for Library Service to Children - ALSC)于1922年为纪念纽伯瑞而创设的奖项。


得奖者必须是对美国儿童文学有杰出贡献者,并以美国公民及永久居民为限,并入选青少年必读书目。自1922年起每年颁发给前一年度最杰出的美国儿童图书作者。它与 “国际安徒生奖”齐名。和凯迪克大奖的区别在于,纽伯瑞奖只颁发给青少年小说(章节书)。“纽伯瑞奖”每年颁发一次,颁奖对象为上一年出版的英语儿童文学作品;每年颁发金奖(Newbery Medal Aword)一部、银奖(Newbery Honor Books)一部或数部。


在多数美国学校,纽伯瑞获奖书比传统的儿童经典更常见。有些进入了阅读课的书目,不少被列为初中必读书,更多出现在学校的/图书馆列出的暑期阅读(summer reading)书单上。

很多教师排斥“只限于传统经典”的文学课程,认为那样会降低青少年的阅读兴趣,他们认为,十几岁的青少年需要一种描述他们独特情感的文学作品,情节跟上时代,反映现实,青少年可以从与其同龄的主人公身上找到共鸣。

不过,是不是所有的纽奖作品都适合青少年阅读?这个一直都有争议。某些纽奖作品(尤其是上世纪60年代以后的纽奖作品)涉及自杀,杀婴,乱伦,自残,性/暴力等等阴暗的东西,所谓的“问题小说”,美式青少年伤痕文学。 有个作家妈妈写了本书专门讲这个问题。Viewer discretion is advised。

盘点历年纽伯瑞儿童文学奖获奖作品

纽伯瑞儿童文学奖Newbery Medal,是为了纪念杰出的英国儿童文学家纽伯瑞对欧美儿童文学的开创之功,由美国图书馆学会的分支机构美国图书馆儿童服务学会于1922年创立。每年 颁发一次,专门奖励上一年度出版的英语儿童文学优秀作品。这一奖项设立以来,获奖作品的规模和水准,已是举世公认。

2015年有3部作品获奖,其中一个金奖,两个银奖。这三部作品两部是诗歌体,一部是漫画体,不仅文采飞扬、画面生动,还蕴含生活的温情和生命的精彩等孩子去慢慢领悟。

 

 

 

2015年纽伯瑞金奖
The Crossover《跨界》又译《交叉运球》
作者:Kwame Alexander

 
主角是12岁的少年Josh Bell,他还有一个孪生兄弟Jordan。他们都是热爱篮球的少年,Josh向往北卡罗来纳大学,Jordan向往杜克大学(北卡罗莱纳大学和杜克大学 的篮球队都是美国的传统强队)。可是他们的生活中不仅有最爱的篮球,还正在面对一场家庭危机,兄弟两人一度交恶,父亲生病住院去世。不过最终,他们俩在母 亲帮助下走出父亲去世的悲痛并和好如初,重新变成一个紧密团结的家庭。

全书117篇章节里有34篇是表现篮球比赛的。“采用类似诗歌的押韵,读起来朗朗上口。用尾音-ing表述他们运动着并雀跃着。”本书是Amazon儿童篮球书籍销量冠军,4好评高达4.8星。适合10到12岁儿童。

2015年纽伯瑞银奖
El Deafo《聋子》
作者:Cece Bell

文中的主人公小女孩Cece就是作者本人。她从小有听力障碍,需要天天要带着助听器上学。助听器虽然给她的世界带来声音,但是让同班同学孤立了她。虽然历经了很多困难,但是她最终找到了属于自己的位置,也获得了她渴望已久的珍贵友谊。

漫画书式彩色绘本。这个励志故事向孩子们展示了残缺并不是意味着不幸,与众不同也是上天赐予的礼物。本书是Amazon儿童传纪漫画书销量冠军,好评高达4.8星,适合8到12岁儿童。

2015纽伯瑞银奖
Brown Girl Dreaming《棕皮肤女孩的梦想》
作者:Jacqueline Woodson


也是一部自传体小说,作者就是那个棕皮肤的女孩,讲述在走上文学创作之路前发生在她青少年时期的往事。作者出生于俄亥俄州,在南卡罗拉纳州和纽约成长。书 中充满了对年幼时朋友和家人的温馨回忆。“那些微不足道的小事——糖果店的冰淇淋,祖父的花园,果冻罐子里的萤火虫”都在她的笔下变得生动而精彩。
